Gloria Riddle Roe Paintings
Gloria Riddle- Roe was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She majored in classical music and percussion at the University of Texas at Austin. There, she received her teaching degree in the music arts. She 'aced' piano, marimba, xylophone, timpani and snare drum.
She later was the vocal coach for the Houston Grand Opera and was principle timpanist for the Houston Symphony. During her musical tenure she trained and toured with Leonard Bernstein, André Previn and Arthur Feidler.
An interesting fact:
Gloria was accepted to Julliard School of Music. But, because she was female, her music educators in high school refused to write her the required 'letters of recommendation' that she needed to complete the application process. The high school wanted a male to represent the school. So, the staff wrote the letters for a male foreign exchange student that she had trained and tutored during that senior year.
Gloria was a master sketch artist and multi- award winning painter and sculptor. She was also a wonderful mother. November 24, 1937- February 5, 2007.
